IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.2
Course Description
This course is designed to cover the fundamentals of Tivoli Configuration Manager. The information covered in this course will provide you with the opportunity to master several key skills needed to perform day-to-day administrative functions. You will also be introduced to new terminology and concepts associated with administering Tivoli Configuration Manager.

  • Discuss the components and functions of Configuration Manager
  • Describe the basic steps of planning for a Configuration Manager environment and using the product’s integrated installation & configuration
  • Use Inventory to scan hardware and software to determine which enterprise assets are part of your inventory
  • Use Software Distribution to centralize and automate the distribution of applications and data files across your enterprise
  • Use Activity Planner to automate and schedule inventory and software distribution operations
  • Use Change Manager with Activity Planner to handle change management in a large network via reference models
  • Use Enterprise Directory Query Facility to access information contained in an enterprise directory server to select subscribers to a reference model in Change Manager
  • Use Resource Manager with Web Gateway to extend the scope of your inventory/software distribution activities to include pervasive devices Use the Web Interface service to perform Configuration Manager operations with a Web browser

 


Who will benefit from this course
This introductory course is intended for system administrators responsible for the configuration and administration of Tivoli Configuration Manager. It is intended for systems administrators and implementers unfamiliar with Tivoli Configuration Manager. This course also provides students with fundamental Tivoli Management Framework concepts required for supporting Tivoli Configuration Manager.

Required Skills Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of either UNIX or Windows 2000 or NT operating system Understanding of UNIX or Windows system administration concepts, specifically:
    • Understanding of file maintenance (create, delete, set permissions)
    • Familiarity with UNIX user accounts or NT local and domain user accounts
  • Basic understanding of client/server concepts
  • Ability to use the UNIX vi editor or Windows editors
  • Ability to navigate through windowing applications
  • Working knowledge of an Internet browser
