IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.2 - Senior Administration
Course Description
This is a 3-day instructor-led course that explores the IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.2 product in more detail. Using the 4.2.1 version of the product, students will learn best practices for deploying the product, as well as monitoring and troubleshooting methods. Students will use the new deployment services Activity Planner, Change Manager and Resource Manager (for users only). The new Pristine Manager deployment service will also be introduced in this course.

Objectives

This course enables you to build the necessary knowledge and skills to:

  • Plan for Software Distribution and Inventory profile distributions in a large environment, including scaling and bandwidth issues.
  • Configure and troubleshoot MDist 2 and Scalable Collection Service (SCS).
  • Apply best practices for distributing software, including monitoring distributions and recovering from failed distributions.
  • Distribute profiles to mobile targets.
  • Configure Inventory to collect and store custom information.
  • Use and maintain the configuration repository.
  • Deploy and troubleshoot Activity Planner plans and Change Manager Reference Models to aid in Configuration Manager deployment.
  • Use Resource Manager with Enterprise Directory Query Facility to manage systems that are linked to LDAP users.
  • Describe the functionality of the Pristine Manager component.

 


Who will benefit from this course
System administrators who deploy, administer, and maintain IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.2 environments.

Required Skills Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of the Windows and Unix operating systems, Windows and Unix administration functions, and Windows program installation
  • Basic familiarity with database queries
  • Ability to use the following Tivoli infrastructure components:
          Tivoli Desktop
          Tivoli Administrators
          Tivoli Profiles
  • Students must have previous experience with Configuration Manager 4.2. It is assumed that the student will know how to create and distribute
  • Software Distribution and Inventory profiles, as well as create basic software packages.
  • Students must have a working knowledge of Tivoli infrastructure concepts and components.
