IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.2 Administration
Course Description

In the IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite Administration course students will study network planning, installation, maintenance, configuration, and problem solving. This course includes an in-depth look at the background processes, the ITWS production cycle and production processing. The network planning discussion will include the different types of ITWS workstations, advantages of domains and designing a network to meet the needs of your organisation. We will discuss configuration options available for an individual workstation and configuring the entire network. This includes how to effectively use ITWS security. We will look at common ITWS problems, how to identify what is wrong and how to resolve them.

Course labs will include planning a network, defining a workstation and domain, installing a new ITWS workstation and ITWS components, among other exercises. This training is done in a classroom environment with multiple opportunities to practice concepts by performing student lab exercises using real-world scenarios.

  • This course enables you to build the necessary knowledge and skills to:
  • Overview of the extended agent architecture
  • List features available in the different Extended Agents
  • Plan a TWS network to meet the needs of an organization
  • Describe the TWS processes, their functions and interaction
  • Customize job execution
  • Locate critical files and directories in the TWS directory structure
  • Install and configure TWS network and the individual workstations, including the time zone
  • Install TWS and JSC fixpacks
  • Migrate TWS to the latest version
  • Manage TWS security
  • Change the start of the day
  • Configure the auditing feature
  • Create a Symphony file
  • Generate reports using TWS and TDW
  • Create workstation and domain definitions in the TWS database, including the time zone
  • Determine which TWS components need to be installed on workstations
  • Determine which TWS workstations need Framework installed
  • Update an installation of TWS
  • Configure Framework for TWS
  • Perform maintenance functions
  • Backup the master domain manager
  • Install, configure, and implement Fault Tolerant Switch Manager
  • Trouble shoot problems in the TWS network

Required Skills Knowledge

  • Knowledge of ITWS scheduling and operations.
  • Knowledge of Tivoli Management Framework and its installation.
  • Working knowledge of the UNIX operating system.
  • Proficient editing capabilities using vi would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of current job management methodology in local environment would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of ITWS network in local environment would be helpful.
