IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.2 to 8.3 Differences Workshop from TPP
Course Description

In the IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.2 to 8.3 Differences Workshop, students will gain an understanding of the new features in TWS 8.3 and the Job Scheduling Console 8.3.

The workshop details the major changes in the underlying database and architecture configurations that are required for version 8.3 along with the additions that have been made in the areas of scheduling and plan visibility.

Students will be introduced to the new TWS Web console and additional products that can be integrated with version 8.3 to extend the overall functionality of TWS with the customer’s workload environment.

The differences will be explained through a combination of instructor presentation, interactive demo’s / whiteboard explanations and hands-on exercises.

This Workshop is run within a classroom environment equipped with both TWS 8.2.1 and TWS 8.3 systems. This allows students to explore first hand how the new features of TWS 8.3 work and compare the two versions.

Objectives
  • Demonstrate the compatibility of the versions of TWS and JSC
  • Demonstrate how Jobs and Job Streams are identified within the JSC and CLI.
  • Demonstrate the new Web GUI.
  • Demonstrate changes to Job Stream views.
  • Demonstrate the new run cycle and dependency features and explain how these can provide additional, long sought after, dependency functionality.
  • Demonstrate the new capabilities regarding the creation of the workflow plan.
  • Demonstrate the creation of Trial and Forecast Plans to allow users to view future plans
  • Demonstrate the new ‘remote composer CLI’ feature
  • Explain the new TWS Database provision and demonstrate the database configuration required for a Master Domain Manager / Backup MDM.
  • Describe changes in the configuration files, including the new database located optman file.
  • Explain the various upgrade paths to version 8.3 including the implications of each.
  • Describe the functionality of Tivoli Dynamic Workload Broker and how it can be integrated with TWS 8.3 (FP02 +)

Who will benefit from this course
Existing schedulers, operators, Administrators and their supervisors/managers at sites converting from previous versions of Tivoli Workload Scheduler (Maestro) to Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite 8.3

Required Skills Knowledge
  • General computer literacy in a GUI environment.
  • Existing knowledge of TWS version 8.2.x from either the scheduler or Administrator perspective.
  • Knowledge of file navigation, file editing, and command prompt actions for the operating system to be used (Unix or Windows).

Attendance of TWS 8.2.x Scheduling and Operations course or equivalent knowledge.
