IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite 8.2 Deployment, Integration and Monitoring
Course Description

The IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite 8.2 Deployment, Integration and Monitoring course is intended for advanced Tivoli Workload Scheduler administrators who have taken the IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite 8.2 Scheduling and Operations class as well as the IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Suite 8.2 Administration class. Students will learn about advanced Tivoli Workload Scheduler topics through hands-on lab work supplemented by lectures. Deployment topics addressed in this class include deploying Tivoli Workload Scheduler using the CLI. Integration topics include integrating Tivoli Workload Scheduler with Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC), IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM), Limited Fault Tolerant Agents (LFTAs), Tivoli Workload Scheduler Extended Agents (TWS XA) for SAP, and TWS XA for PeopleSoft. Monitoring topics include configuring monitors to track the size of critical file systems, to track the size of Tivoli Workload Scheduler message files, and other factors critical to the operation of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler. More topics covered in this class include real-life troubleshooting of problems and designing disaster recovery solutions.

Using concepts presented in this course, students will design and implement a TWS network that will feature the integration and utilization of Tivoli Workload Scheduler and TEC, ITM, and TCM. In the hands-on exercises the students will install Tivoli Workload Scheduler using twsinst, silent installation, and software distribution (TCM). The exercises in this course will also design and implement a disaster recovery scenario as well as activate and demonstrate the use of Switch Fault Tolerance.

Class Length
5 days

Objectives
  • Discuss the installation of Tivoli Management Framework, Job Scheduling Services, TWS Connector, TWS Plus Module, TWS Limited Fault-tolerant Agent and TWS for Applications and the Job Scheduling Console.
  • Describe the integration between TWS and Tivoli Data Warehouse, IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console and Tivoli Distributed Monitoring.
  • Describe and demonstrate Switch Fault Tolerance.
  • Describe how to implement disaster recovery and use it in an emergency for both short and long term.
  • List the basic rules and network planning considerations to follow when developing a TWS environment.
  • Describe the two recommended ways of shutting down a TWS environment.
  • Describe how time zones are utilized and activated in a TWS environment.
  • Describe what TWS for Applications does, how it works, and how it fits into the overall TWS network.
  • Describe the architecture and design of PeopleSoft and SAP R/3.
  • Describe how the AS/400 uses menus, commands and QSH as both QSECOFR and QMAESTRO users and other useful AS/400 commands and common function keys (such as checking for installed patches).
  • Describe the functionality, limitations, maintenance steps, and troubleshooting of an LFTA.
  • Discuss key TWS security features such as Secure Sockets Layer, firewalls and centralized security.
  • Describe how to troubleshoot a failed JSC installation, how to upgrade the JSC, the installation of a fix pack, and how the JSC works through a firewall.
  • Describe how message files are maintained internally, how to monitor message files, and how to troubleshoot problems with message files.
  • Discuss the uninstallation of TWS and the JSC using various uninstallation methods as well as troubleshooting issues with regard to uninstalling TWS and the JSC.
  • Describe when not to use high availability (HA) solutions and IBM’s support of them.
  • Describe how Server IDs affect message files.
  • List the maintenance steps required to maintain a healthy Tivoli Workload Scheduler environment.
  • Discuss real-life scenarios that deal with troubleshooting TWS.
