IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1 Advanced Resource Monitoring
Course Description
IBM Tivoli Monitoring provides monitoring for essential system resources, to detect bottlenecks and potential problems, and to automatically recover from critical situations. Tivoli Monitoring saves system administrators from manually scanning through extensive performance data before problems can be solved. Using industry best-practices, Tivoli Monitoring can provide immediate value to the enterprise. This course provides the knowledge and skills needed to configure, customize, and develop IBM Tivoli Monitoring resource models. The course includes multiple opportunities to practice resource model design skills in a lab environment. A series of carefully constructed hands-on activities reinforces the important lessons presented in this course.

Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe WMI, and Unix-based CIM implementations.
  • Understand the detailed architecture of resource model elements.
  • Describe the components of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Resource Model Builder.
  • Use the Resource Model Builder to create and customize advanced resource models for both Windows and Unix/Linux.
  • Use the Service Object Method Library in Resource Models.
  • Employ tools and techniques to debug advanced Resource Models.
  • Describe the tools available to migrate DM Classic Edition monitors.
  • Use the Resource Model Builder to convert DM Classic Edition monitors to resource models.

Who will benefit from this course
This course is aimed at System Administrators who will develop and customize IBM Tivoli Monitoring Resource Models for Windows, Unix and Linux platforms.

Required Skills Knowledge

The following skills and areas of knowledge are required:

  • Working knowledge of policy regions.
  • Ability to create and use profiles and profile managers.
  • Ability to distribute profiles to subscribers.
  • Experience using the IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1.1 product.
  • It is recommended that you are familiar with IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console.
  • Working knowledge of system administration on UNIX and Windows 2000.
  • Basic understanding of Visual Basic and/or JavaScript coding.
  • Understanding of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).

While this course is designed for UNIX and NT, most knowledge and skills obtained in this training can be applied to any Tivoli-supported client operating system.
