Course Description
This course covers all of the updates of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager from before 5.1 up through the latest release, 5.2. You will learn new data flow concepts, including Server-free and using a Storage Area Network or SAN. There are topics covering new ways to backup, restore, and move your data. You will learn new methods to restore data, including bare machine recovery. You will also be learning the latest values for tuning parameters to improve performance.

Objectives

This course enables you to build the necessary knowledge and skills to:

• List all new Server and Client platforms now available, including iSeries and Linux at 5.1.5, and their differences.
• Migrate from any previous version to 5.2.
• Describe current Data flow concepts including LAN, LAN-Free , and Server Free (including Enhancements to each).
• Describe changes to Tivoli Data Protection Products including NDMP and file level restore.
• Describe device support changes including topics such as Library Sharing, Tape Alert, and Mixed Media use.
• Use Snapshot, Journal based, and other new types of backups, including ability to backup or exclude System Objects.
• Describe changes to existing backup and restore methods.
• Implement new methods of moving data such as MOVENODEDATA and Multisession backup and restore.
• Determine new values for updated performance parameters such as TXNGROUPMAX and TXNBYTELIMIT.
• Include Sysback, Cristie, and/or ASR into your recovery solution.
• Convey differences in Disaster Recovery Manager processes.
