Lotus Protector - Single source security for Lotus Domino deployments
August 2008
As new threats emerge and legal/regulatory requirements evolve, the need for a comprehensive security solution supporting messaging continues to increase. The explosion of e-mail as a content container has changed the way enterprises manage the growing corpus of data - in motion and at rest - represented by users' mailboxes. Until now, new security threats have been addressed with new solutions from new vendors. Over time this approach can create a fragmented and disconnected messaging security infrastructure that is difficult to purchase, integrate and maintain. What customers need is an integrated approach, one that helps reduce the complexity of messaging security.

In 2008, IBM currently plans to launch IBM Lotus® Protector, a new line of security offerings to complement customer investments in IBM Lotus Domino® software. Lotus Protector is an integrated suite of messaging security offerings that will augment the security of the Lotus Domino e-mail environment, protecting the information assets of an organization everywhere in the messaging chain.
Having a single-source solution for all messaging security needs will deliver many customer advantages, from easier purchasing to integration, both with Lotus Domino and throughout the planned Lotus Protector software suite. Acquisition, ownership, and management of this enterprise-grade solution will be easier than individual offerings from multiple competitors. And it will be backed by IBM's strong reputation for security, reliability and scalability.
Lotus Protector offerings are designed to deliver best-of-breed technology in a way that's easier to purchase and deploy than competitive offerings, and over time will deliver the benefits of a single-source, integrated family of offerings. Customers will benefit from a Lotus-supplied, Lotus-backed platform of best-in-breed security solutions, designed on a unified experience for users and administrators.
The initial offering of Lotus Protector software will include the capabilities of IBM Proventia® Network Mail Security System software. In 2007, SC Magazine rated Proventia Network Mail Security software as "Recommended". IBM plans to broaden the Lotus Protector software suite over time to include the rest of the Lotus collaboration portfolio.
